What Isles of Sea and Sky is
A hand-crafted pixel puzzle adventure set in a single connected archipelago. You are a small traveller washed up on a beach, and almost everything you do is done by pushing, stacking and steering the blocks that make up the world. There is no combat: every locked door, blocked path and distant island is a puzzle put there on purpose.
The world is built room by room on a grid, Game Boy Color style. Some rooms are literal puzzles, some are shortcuts home, and some hide things the game never tells you about — the secrets guide covers how it signals "there is more here" without a single quest marker.
It is a solo project by Jason Newman, released on May 22, 2024 for PC, and still being expanded: the free Mysterious Update in July 2025 added a whole post-game layer of collectibles.
Before you start
- Platform: PC via Steam. A Switch version has been talked about, but as of September 2026 it has no release date — this site covers the PC release.
- How long: roughly 15–27 hours to roll credits and complete the collectibles (per HowLongToBeat player records), with the new post-game content on top.
- Version: all pages are verified against v2.6a, the current patch. The game updates a few times a year and the staff folds each patch into the affected pages.
What to do first
- Learn the verbs before you travel. Push, pull, lift and stack are the whole game; experiment in the starting rooms until moving blocks feels like talking.
- Treat stars as keys, not points. They open the world in hard gates — know the thresholds before you sail somewhere you cannot land (walkthrough).
- If a room looks too simple, it is hiding something. The game flags unfinished secrets in ways you can see once you know where to look (secrets guide).
